About Diana Ayala

Diana Ayala is a proven fighter for working families who has spent her career standing up for the communities of East Harlem and Northern Manhattan.

Diana most recently served two terms in the New York City Council, where she rose to become Deputy Speaker, one of the chamber’s top leadership positions. During her time in the Council, she was a leading voice for affordable housing, public safety, immigrant rights, and investments in working-class neighborhoods that have too often been overlooked.

As a Council Member, Diana delivered real results for her community — helping secure record funding for schools, parks, and youth programs, expanding support for small businesses, and fighting to ensure that longtime residents can afford to stay in the neighborhoods they helped build. She worked closely with community organizations, labor unions, and local leaders to bring resources back to her district and improve quality of life for families.

Before serving in elected office, Diana built a long record of public service working in government and community advocacy, where she focused on helping families navigate housing, social services, and the challenges facing New Yorkers struggling to get ahead.

Now, Diana Ayala is running for New York State Assembly in District 68 to continue that fight in Albany. She is focused on tackling the affordability crisis, strengthening public schools, expanding access to childcare, protecting immigrant families, and ensuring East Harlem and Northern Manhattan get their fair share of resources from the state.

A lifelong New Yorker and proud daughter of Puerto Rican parents, Diana’s story reflects the resilience and determination of the community she represents. She knows firsthand the challenges families face — and she is committed to making sure government works for the people who need it most.
